Website Proposal - Melissa Jean Clark

Main Page

Artist Page Lay-Out

My website will feature bodies of work by my fellow classmates in the photography thesis program at OCADU. Seventeen members of the program have joined together to organize an exhibition in time for the CONTACT photography festival in May. Some people are focusing on organizational elements such as advertising and fundraising; consequently, I have chosen to take the lead on establishing a web presence to accompany the exhibition.
The physical exhibition runs for two weeks; yet, the website will exist for two years or more. It will continue to exist after the exhibition is over. In a sense, the web presence is a more permanent space than the two-week long exhibition. The website’s goals will evolve along with the status of the exhibition itself. Before the exhibition’s opening, the website will give the public a preview of the artists’ work, and provide information about the hours and location of the gallery. The exhibition is registered with CONTACT, and the festival website will feature a profile on the exhibit, with a link to my proposed website. After the exhibition is completed, the public will be able to easily look up further information on the artists involved.
The website will have feature a profile for each artist, with a short biography, example of their works, and a link to their own website. I plan to only display two to three images by each artist. I hope that viewers will be left curious and choose to check out the artist’s personal website. Amongst the diverse group of seventeen artists, there are elements of performance, video and still imagery, textiles, and sculptural components included in the photographically centered exhibition. I am challenged to create a website that encompasses work by several emerging artists working in various facets of the photographic medium.
In order to display seventeen artist’s works in a clean, professional manner, the website will be quite simple. By keeping the navigation and graphics modest, I believe that the focus will be on the artists and their work. The site will feature a page for each artist, contact and exhibition information, and a news and events section. I plan to use Wordpress to manage the website. Wordpress is easy to use, and allows me to add other users with unique passwords so that group members may also look over the site’s creation.
As emerging artists, most members of the exhibition have not received much recognition in the art world yet. My proposed website will serve as a summary of the exhibition and its members; which, will be good to look back upon in a few years. When the artist’s put the exhibition on their CV, they can refer to the site to offer more information about it. I plan to continue to update the ‘News’ section of the site in the future. There, I can share any press or awards received by the participating artists.

Hey Everyone,

I'm Melissa. Sometimes I look like this:
And other times I look like this:

In our first class, my website was down. Everything is fixed (and it's faster) now. It's http://melissajclark.ca/

I'm also a part of INTAC (International Art Collaborations) and we have a Tumblr blog. (Click my name on the right-hand side to see all the posts I've done). We're collaborating on projects with students in Finland & Korea. We use the Tumblr blog to post process work, project proposals, and in the beginning we used it to post videos about ourselves too. On my first post on the INTAC Tumblr, I shared a video. I thought it might be relevant here too.

I also made a blog for my collaborative partners and I to share images/ideas/record our chats. Recently we've discovered our love of webcam & cell-phone imagery and we've each been posting self-portraits and documentation of our life. You can check that out here: http://melissajclark.ca/akm/
